This volumen is slightly expanded version of the latter half of A Textbook of English Phonology written the same author. It is designed to meet the needs of students who follow the Bologna curriculum and have taken a new subject calld Phonetics II. Minor but theoretically significant changes have been made in the sphere of the accent of derivation (a third category of adjectives ending in-al added) and intonation, where the speakers` attitudes are seen not fully refecting the polysemy and ambivalence of cool as a lexical item.
